Legal Tech Careers
When I left traditional legal practice and moved into legal technology, there was no obvious career map.
Today there is an entire economy emerging around the intersection of law, technology, AI, business, and product development.
Legal professionals are becoming founders, product managers, legal engineers, consultants, sales leaders, marketers, knowledge professionals, customer success leaders, AI specialists, and operators.
The question is no longer simply: "Do I want to practice law?"
It is increasingly: "What can I build with a legal education?"
What is a legal tech career?
A legal tech career is any role that uses legal knowledge, legal industry experience, or legal problem-solving inside the companies and systems transforming legal services. For context on the industry itself, see legal technology.

How to get into legal tech
The most effective transition usually begins by translating legal experience into the language of problems, users, products, and businesses.
Your advantage is rarely that you know the law better than everyone else. Your advantage is that you understand how legal work actually happens.
- 01Understand the legal tech ecosystem.
- 02Identify the problems you understand unusually well.
- 03Translate your legal experience into commercial or product value.
- 04Start building relationships inside the industry.
- 05Build evidence of interest through writing, projects, events, or hands-on work.
From practice to build
The broader shift is from seeing a legal education as preparation for one profession to seeing it as a foundation for an entire ecosystem of work.
I call that shift Practice → Build.
